[28–29 Nov 2019] COIN DESC annual meeting in Delft
The final annual meeting of the COIN DESC project took place on 28–29 November, 2019, at the Faculty of Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering (3mE), TU Delft. The purpose of the two day meeting was to present and brainstorm the results obtained during the third project year as well as to discuss the publications that are currently under preparation. At the meeting we also planned the forthcoming publications.

[09–13 Sep 2019] COIN DESC group participated at EUROCORR 2019 in Sevilla, Spain
From 9th to 13th September 2019 we attended the largest European conference on corrosion protection – EUROCORR 2019, held in Seville, Spain. The motto of the conference "New times, new materials, new corrosion challenges" emphasized the importance of developing new materials that allow for ecological and sustainable corrosion protection.

We presented 6 oral presentations, in particular:

  1. I. Milošev, Inhibitors for copper in chloride solution with different functional and side groups studied by electrochemical methods and XPS (ID: 209650)
  2. A. Kokalj, An integrative modeling and experimental approach toward corrosion inhibition: heterocyclic organic molecules as potential corrosion inhibitors for Cu and Zn (ID: 220694)
  3. P. Taheri, Inhibition properties of imidazole-based compounds on brass (ID: 177849)
  4. F.U. Renner, Inhibition of copper corrosion by mercapto-benzimidazole derivates on the molecular scale (ID: 200663)
  5. Chenyang Xie, Inhibition properties of benzimidazole-based compounds on crystalline and amorphous CuZr alloys (ID: 207593)
  6. D. Kozlica, Efficiency of mercapto and phosphonic inhibitors for copper and aluminum as a function of surface preparation (ID: 219363)

These contributions were presented at the mini-symposium within the section Mechanisms, Methods & Modeling, chaired by two COIN DESC group members – I. Milošev and A. Kokalj.

[27–30 May 2019] Plenary and keynote lectures given at 7th RSE-SEE Symposium in Split, Croatia.
From 27th to 30th May 2019 several COIN DESC project members attended the 7th RSE-SEE Symposium (Regional Symposium on Electrochemistry – South East Europe) that took place in Split, Croatia. More than 150 participants joined the conference thus giving an excellent opportunity to meet colleagues from South-East Europe involved in research in electrochemistry.

Arjan Mol, a COIN DESC project member, presented a plenary lecture entitled "In-situ electrochemical, microscopic and spectroscopic studies of local corrosion and buried metal-polymer interfaces", whereas the project PI Anton Kokalj presented a keynote lecture entitled "Molecular modeling of corrosion inhibitors: a search for physically sound descriptors". The last COIN DESC related lecture entitled "The influence of surface preparation on efficiency of mercapto and phosphonic inhibitors adsorbed on aluminium and copper metal" was given by Dževad Kozlica.

[27–28 Oct 2016] COIN DESC kick-off meeting in Ljubljana
A two day kick-off meeting of the COIN DESC project took place on October 27 and 28 at Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Project consortium, coordinated by Dr. Anton Kokalj, links scientist from one research organization and three universities. During the kick-off meeting the representatives of each partner discussed the work plan and set the road map for the utilization of the project goal, which is to deepen the mechanistic understanding of corrosion inhibition and to design corrosion resistant copper-based alloy systems by using corrosion inhibitors.
